Over the years, I’ve failed at being as good at responding to messages as I wanted to be, and certainly did not do so as often my readers deserved. But I’ve read and kept everything, and even though not much remains after a chaotic and nomadic existence, I still have a CD that houses a cherished archive of letters that date back to 1999, when Trapdoor was serialised to mailing lists on the web and lived at my first website, the garden of desire.
